Lesson 5 is more about microphones but we go even deeper and explore miking techniques, both of miking all types of individual instruments as well as some common techniques where we pair microphones together to create a stereo image of the sounds and music we’re trying to capture. It’s after Lesson 4, and you’ve chosen the types of microphones you’d like to use when miking your band’s acoustic guitar for example, but where exactly will you place those mics in order to get the best sound? That and much more will be answered here.
We will talk about not only where to place microphones to get the outcome you desire, but also why you would be placing things at certain angles, certain spots, and the math involved in trying to capture sound at certain distances. After this lesson you will have a great understanding of placement and have many tricks up your sleeve to test out and be able to hear the results for yourself. Where are you gonna put that thing? Only you can decide!
