Welcome to Part 2 of the mixing lessons, Lesson 13, where we continue to explore how to actually do this thing by using all the tools, skills, and knowledge gained in our previous lessons.
There were some extras in the previous lesson but this one focuses strictly on functionality: We talk a little more about processing and then efficiently go right down the list of starting points for each individual instrument. We will learn the common standards here, and once you know the standards you can continue to alter any method or idea you’d like in order to create your own unique sound.
Mixing is an art form. Trends in mixing may vary by genre, may come and go by year or decade, or vary according to the engineer’s own personal preferences. This is where you can truly make your mark on your own creations. We’ll continue to place the building blocks, then you create the magic!
