In the next 2 lessons we are diving into the vast world of… Mixing. Yes, here we are at Lesson 12, and we’re finally doing it! Don’t let the title of this lesson fool you, although it’s labeled “preparation” you just can’t sleep on this info because it is really Part 1 of How to Mix.
Now we have all the tools in our tool bag from previous lessons: We understand the science of sound – what it is and what’s happening, we understand analog and digital, how to speak music’s basic language, our microphones and how/where to place them, our sound systems as a whole, signal processing, and we know all our knobs and buttons. Now we have all the technical tools and are ready to set things up properly in order to use them in this art form that is mixing it all together.
In this lesson we’ll talk about set-up, the art of how to create an imagined “space” within someone’s head through your sound and processing placement choices, and I’ll throw in a few tricks I have up my sleeve to really take it to the next level.
